Group files suit, alleges police brutality at Occupy Cal

BERKELEY, Calif.

Attorneys for the activist group, "By Any Means Necessary," say UC Berkeley Chancellor Robert Birgeneau used police violence against students on Nov. 9 to shut down opposition to his plan to increase tuition.

A spokesperson says the school is not commenting today on the suit, but says there are at least three pending reviews of police tactics.

Tuesday at the campus, State Sen. Kevin De Leon of Los Angeles met with Chancellor Birgeneau to discuss ways to improve the university system.

A cal spokeswoman says more discussions will be scheduled for next year.
