Sesame Street debuts in Afghanistan

The show is tailored to be culturally sensitive for Afghan children. It will encourage kids to exercise, as opposed to showing dancing or singing. The puppets will remain to entertain children with educational messages.

Nearly half of the Afghan population is under 15. The ravages of 30 years of war left the education system in shambles. Fewer than two-thirds of the children are enrolled in primary school.

The producers hope Afghan kids will get to see positive images of children like themselves on TV.
