The 32-year-old industrial designer was leaving a Lucky store on White Road last week when he says he was attacked by a group of men who broke his jaw and knocked out six teeth.
The victim says his attackers were drunk and belligerent.
The victim is Hindu. He does not want to be identified, out of fear of retaliation.
San Jose police is now reviewing surveillance from the grocery store to see if the assault was caught on video.
