The American Geophysical Union's Fall Conference drew thousands of scientists to discuss research regarding earthquakes, volcanoes and weather-related phenomenon.
According to KQED, the event happens every December toward the middle of the month.
Topics discussed at the conference included the El Nino weather pattern and other climate change topics; a mobile sensor system that monitors and measures earthquakes and tornadoes; and discoveries made by the NASA Mars Rover vehicle.
