Butterball in hot water over animal cruelty accusations

Accusations of animal cruelty have landed Butterball, America's largest turkey producer, in hot water with North Carolina authorities.

Members of the animal rights group Mercy For Animals spent three years working at a Butterball farm in Hoke County, taking photos and shooting videos.

One video showed Butterball workers kicking and throwing turkeys.

Officials raided the Butterball farm on Thursday.

Butterball hasn't responded to request for comments on the accusations.

Butterball accounts for 20 percent of the turkey produced in the United States.
