A massive holiday DUI crackdown is already underway around the Bay Area.

Police have made 1,000 DUI arrests since check points started around the Bay Area on December 16. Of those arrests, 485 were in Alameda County.

"We are not deterring anyone from having a good time and having fun, but part of the education is letting the driver know that if you are going to be going out and having a good time, please designate a driver. With those 21 law enforcement agencies out there, we are aggressively seeking that impaired driver." said CHP Sgt Shawn Morris.

With New Year's Eve falling on a Saturday night, officers say they will have even more officers out than usual.
