Son arrested after allegedly stabbing mother

VALLEJO, Calif.

Police received a call around 6:30 p.m. from a roommate at home in the 300 block of Ebbetts Pass Road who said the suspect, Felix Rivera, had stabbed his mother, Vallejo police Sgt. Kelly Schroeder said.

The mother suffered severe but not life-threatening facial wounds and serious cuts to her wrist. She was taken to NorthBay Medical Center in Fairfield, Schroeder said.

Rivera was apprehended at a different address in the 100 block of Hogan Avenue in Vallejo, Schroeder said. He was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

Police believe Rivera has untreated mental health problems, which they said may have led to the attack. Schroeder said the mother was beaten so severely that she was passing in and out of consciousness before medical crews arrived.
