Police search for teen possibly kidnapped by boyfriend

SAN JOSE, Calif.

San Jose police are investigating the girl's disappearance as a kidnapping and believe that the teen, Raquel Menchaca, is with her boyfriend Leonel Vargas, of Stockton.

Raquel's mother last saw her on Thursday around 4:30 p.m. getting into a car with Vargas near Oak Grove High School on Blossom Hill Road in South San Jose. Officers arrived at the school but the couple had already left, San Jose police said.

The victim's father then tracked down his daughter and her boyfriend and confronted them, police said. Vargas allegedly accelerated and ran over the father's foot with his car, according to police.

Raquel's family called police Friday to report her missing. Detectives believe that pair was in Ukiah over the weekend.

Their whereabouts are now unknown, police said Wednesday. The two may be staying near Stockton, Madera or Ukiah.

A $250,000 warrant has been issued for Vargas for the suspected kidnapping and assault with a deadly weapon for running over his girlfriend's father's foot with the car, police said.

Raquel is described as 5 feet 6 inches tall and about 90 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. Vargas has black hair and brown eyes with a medium complexion, according to police.

The car they are in is described as a gold two-door Toyota Solara with California license plate No. 5HBX454.
