8:30 a.m. Habitat for Humanity and Rebuilding Together SF will perform renovations to the Bayview Opera House as part of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service. Bayview Opera House, 4705 Third St., San Francisco.

9 a.m. The fifth annual Martin Luther King Day of Service in Richmond. Registration is at Sixth Street and Ohio Avenue on the Richmond Greenway

9 a.m. Martin Luther King Day of Service in Oakland's Sobrante Park neighborhood. Note: opening ceremony is at 8:30 a.m. Volunteers will meet at Sobrante Park elementary school, 470 El Paseo Drive, Oakland.

9 a.m. The San Francisco Department of Public Works, Mayor Ed Lee and the African American Arts and Cultural Complex will work on several cleaning and greening projects throughout the city. Kickoff is at the African American Art & Culture Complex, 762 Fulton St., San Francisco.
