The San Francisco Democrat introduced a bill Thursday that would ban raises for administrators when the state budget is in the red. Yee says students should not have to bear the brunt of budget cuts alone. His measure has its critics.
"They would argue that we need to stay competitive. We need to make sure we attract the very finest of talent in our state university college system. And, what I would say is you have to look at the context we're living in," Yee said.
The bill would also cap raises for newly-hired administrators at 5 percent of the salary of the person they replace.
