Man back on tranplant list despite immigration status

SAN FRANCISCO

Jesus Navarro, an undocumented immigrant from Mexico, learned this week that UCSF Medical Center reversed course and now says it will perform the life-saving procedure.

UCSF had denied the operation because of concerns his immigration status might affect his financial stability. But during a Tuesday meeting, officials said it was all just a misunderstanding and they are working with Navarro to ensure he can pay the long-term care.

"I feel just great; I feel like I am going to receive my transplant,' Navarro said. "I'm going to be able to enjoy being with my daughter."

140,000 people signed a petition of support.

Navarro still has to wait six months to reach the top of the kidney donor list.
