Man rescued from oil tank on SS Jeremiah O'Brien

San Francisco fire crews rushed to rescue a man who fell into an oil tank on the Jeremiah O'Brien Liberty Ship.

Specialized rescue teams were called in to free the unidentified man who was working on the ship when he fell about 10 feet into a tank that is just 18 inches in diameter. Fire officials say the man was on a ladder and was not wearing fall protection when the accident happened.

The 37-year-old man suffered a cut to his head and complained of back pain. He was taken to San Francisco General Hospital.
