Scientists confirmed the existence of a new type of planet on Tuesday.

Meet GJ 1214b -- a new class of exoplanets outside the solar system.

Astronomers say it's unlike any planet they've seen. It's mostly made up of hot water with a surface temperature of 450 degrees.

The planet is more than two and a half times the size of earth and is covered in a thick steamy atmosphere. It is 40 light years away.
