Eating citrus foods can lower risk of stroke

An apple a day may keep the doctor away, but an orange or some grapefruit may do more to lower the risk of a stroke in women.

A new study published in the journal "Stroke" shows that increased consumption of flavonoid-rich foods may do just that.

Researchers found that women who ate high amounts of citrus products had a 19 percent lower risk of suffering a blood clot-related stroke than women who didn't consume as much.
