Some Oakland teachers to re-apply for jobs

OAKLAND, Calif.

Teachers at Oakland's Castlemont, Fremont and, McClymonds high schools will be affected. District officials say those who re-apply will have more responsibilities, and a shorter summer, but will be better compensated.

A district spokesman says the move is necessary to ensure teachers are onboard with a new plan to re-design schools. Anyone who doesn't want to reapply will be given a job at another Oakland school. A union rep says the move violates the teachers' contracts.
