Disoriented hiker on Mt. Tam found safe

MARIN COUNTY, Calif.

The hiker called the sheriff's office on his cellphone around 7:50 a.m. to report that he was disoriented but not injured, Sgt. Mark Hale said.

The GPS pinpointed his location as an area along the Coastal Trail near the Pantoll Campground, Hale said.

Sheriff's patrol deputies were in phone contact with the hiker throughout the morning, and he was located around 11 a.m., Hale said.

The hiker was well-supplied with a backpack, sleeping bag and air mattress, Hale said.
