Attorneys for the unions believe the wording of Measure B is biased in favor of the initiative. It is aimed at reducing the city's pension cost. The court will hear arguments from both sides on April 3, just one day before ballots for the June election must go to the printers.
"This one does cleary prejudice the voters in favor of the measure using hot button words like essential services, reform, and abuses," said labor union attorney Robin Johansen.
Mayor Reed backs Measure B. His office released a statement saying, "This is just the latest in a series of meritless complaints made by city employee unions in an attempt to keep the voters from having a voice on retirement reform."
