BEYOND THE HEADLINES
April 22, 2012
PBWC
Hosted by ABC7's Cheryl Jennings

The Professional BusinessWomen of California (PBWC) was founded 23 years ago by Congresswoman Jackie Speier. She joins us in-studio to talk about PBWC and some of the battles she's currently fighting for women, like military sexual trauma.

PBWC is hosting its annual Conference, "Connect. Innovate. Inspire." Thousands of businesswomen of all industries and ages will convene on Tuesday, May 15, at the Moscone Center West in San Francisco for the largest annual gathering of professional women in Northern California. Now in its third decade, the PBWC Conference is led by some of the most sought-after thought leaders in the country, delivering keynote speeches, seminars, exhibits, and more.

Look for Cheryl Jennings as she moderates the Opening Keynote Session in the morning. Speakers at this year's PBWC conference include editor-in-chief of Newsweek Magazine and The Daily Beast Tina Brown, senior vice president of IBM Global Business Services Bridget Van Kralingen and author of the number-one New York Times best-selling book "The Happiness Project," Gretchen Rubin. U.S. Congresswoman and PBWC founder Jackie Speier will round out the list of main-stage speakers.

The one-day program will also feature morning and afternoon educational programs on topics from management tactics and leadership strategies, to financial empowerment and work/life balance. Attendees will have the opportunity to discover tools and resources needed to accelerate their careers while learning practical tips for greater on-the-job productivity and satisfaction. There will also be an exhibition area with more than 100 exhibitors and conference sponsors.

Documentary filmmaker, activist and actor Jennifer Siebel Newsom will again host the PBWC's "Young Women's Summit," a conference within a conference designed to support high school seniors and college-aged young women. More than 25 top California women leaders will offer advice through the very popular speed mentoring session. Newsom is an actress, advocate and filmmaker who produced the critically acclaimed movie Miss Representation.

The Professional BusinessWomen of California is a non-profit organization founded by U.S. Representative Jackie Speier to inspire, support and connect businesswomen. PBWC has a community of more than 25,000 businesswomen who are pursuing professional and personal success through education and networking opportunities. Women from all industries and levels have a forum at PBWC's annual conference, regional events and webinars as well as through the online community to share their wisdom and experience, ignite new thinking and fulfill their potential.
