A San Francisco school teacher treated her kids to an unusual civics lesson Tuesday. Students at St. Philip the Apostle School in Noe Valley got to watch fifth grade teacher Mary McKeever be sworn in as a U.S. citizen.

McKeever came to the U.S. from Ireland 12 years ago. She had planned to have her students attend the naturalization ceremony at the immigration office, but a new idea was presented to her.

"Immigration Services told my attorney that I had the option of having my naturalization ceremony down here at the school in front of the school, it started with that and we thought it would be something very simple, it's obviously become a lot more," McKeever said.

As an extra treat, McKeever's parents in Ireland were able to watch the ceremony live via Skype.
