SF Unified school officials vote for layoffs

The teachers' union set out dozens of empty chairs outside school district headquarters last night, to represent the layoffs. They say the board should use part of its $80 million reserve fund to rescind the pink slips.

An administrative law judge also ruled this week that 65 special faculty members in the Mission and Bayview would not be immune to the layoffs. Meanwhile, teachers are set to take a strike authorization vote tomorrow, after the district declared an impasse in contract talks last week.
