It'll soon be easier for millions of cable TV customers to get free access to WiFi. Over the next few months, customers of Comcast, Cablevision, Time Warner Cable, Bright House and Cox will have free access when traveling outside their home network.

The companies will open up their combined 50,000 WiFi hotspots across the country to their competitor's subscribers. Those hotspots will be at beaches, sports venues, shopping malls and other high traffic areas. All this will be available for free to customers of those five cable companies.

Simply log in under the label "Cable Wi-Fi." this is cable's response to increased competition from 4G smartphone providers.
