A 25-year-old San Jose man who was lost in the brush along Highway 101 for a week is now awake and alert. Michael Sanchez Jr. was badly injured when his truck veered off the Hellyer Avenue off ramp in South San Jose on May 8.

The Highway Patrol searched the accident scene, but found nothing. They went back seven days later after Sanchez's family filed a missing persons report. Searchers discovered him about 50 feet from where his truck had ended up. Sanchez was in a coma and near death.
