The umpiring crew from Tuesday night's Oakland Athletics game made a trip to UCSF Children's Hospital. They visited kids with cancer and other serious illnesses and then handed out supplies from Build-A-Bear Workshop. The kids were able to make their very own stuffed animal and even dress them up in Athletics or Giants uniforms.
"I know it's not the best time being in the hospital, but at least we hopefully put a smile on their face for a couple of hours, for a couple of minutes anyway," said umpire Gary Darling.
This is the 68th hospital visit by Major League umpires since the UMPS CARE Charities program started six years ago. They will be visiting 12 hospitals this year.
