OAKLAND, Calif. --
This morning, Oakland Mayor Jean Quan's office is now admitting the city's crime epidemic goes well beyond the 100 blocks she has repeatedly claimed were the city's most dangerous. Mayor Quan's top aide says the key statistic the mayor used to sell her anti-crime program was grossly inflated.
A recent study by an Oakland non-profit found Quan's 100 block plan only covers 17 percent of homicides and shootings. It says police would need to focus on 1300 blocks to reduce violence. The aide says the mayor only learned the figure was incorrect last week.
