Charges filed against man found with 114 stolen bikes

SAN FRANCISCO

Irving Morales-Sanchez was arrested May 17 and has been charged with 20 counts of receiving or buying stolen property, District Attorney George Gascon announced at a news conference today.

The case came to light after victims notified police that their stolen bikes were being offered for sale on Craigslist, according to the district attorney's office.

Investigators eventually recovered eight bicycles from Morales-Sanchez's residence via a search warrant, then found another 106 bicycles in storage lockers in Oakland, prosecutors said.

The total value of all of the bicycles is more than $10,000.

"This individual was a big seller of stolen bicycles and fueling thieves to steal bicycles for a quick buck," Gascon said in a statement.

Victims have since identified 20 of the bicycles, and investigators are asking for more people to come forward to identify the other ones. Photos of the stolen bikes are available at http://s1257.photobucket.com/albums/ii510/InglesideInvestigations.

Morales-Sanchez will return to court on July 30 for the preliminary hearing in the case.
