NRA criticized for insensitive tweet following theater shooting

The National Rifle Association is being widely criticized for sending out an insensitive tweet Friday.

The tweet from an official NRA account, @NRA_Rifleman (American Rifleman), read "Good morning, shooters. Happy Friday. Weekend plans?"

It was posted at 9 a.m. eastern, a few hours after the deadly theater shooting at a movie screening for the film, "Dark Knight Rises," which killed 12 people and wounded dozens others.

That twitter account has been disabled.

A spokesman for the gun rights group said the person who posted the tweet was unaware of the events in Colorado and that the tweet had been completely taken out of context.
