Menlo Park squirrel tests positive for West Nile

Health officials have planted extra mosquito traps in the Menlo Park area after a gray squirrel tested positive for West Nile virus earlier this month.

It's the first squirrel to test positive for West Nile this year.

Tests show it probably acquired the disease last year.

West Nile is spread by mosquito bites.

San Mateo county vector control plans to take steps to reduce mosquito breeding if tests show increased levels of insects carrying West Nile.
