Live WWII grenade found in garage

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.

The sheriff's bomb squad was dispatched to the home on Longford Drive around 2 p.m. after someone reported that a Japanese grenade from WWII had been fond there.

The military grenade had apparently been brought back from the war as a souvenir, according to the sheriff's office.

Bomb squad investigators determined that the grenade was intact and capable of exploding.

The device was removed from the garage and taken to a remote location, where it was "safely mitigated," sheriff's officials said.
