Crackdown on drivers who don't yield to pedestrians

August 1, 2012 6:29:52 PM PDT
Burlingame police will be cracking down on drivers who fail to yield to pedestrians in crosswalks Wednesday.

The special enforcement operation will take place at locations throughout Burlingame, police said.

Vehicles that fail to yield to pedestrians are a common complaint to the Burlingame traffic division, police said.

In 2010, there were 17 pedestrian collisions in Burlingame that resulted in 15 injuries, according to police.

In 2009, 561 pedestrians were killed in California, according to the California State Wide Integrated Traffic Reporting System.

Any media wishing to schedule an interview or request a ride-along with law enforcement during the special operation should contact Capt. Eric Wollman, or Cpl. Chuck Witt at (650) 777-4100.
