Group raises money to help outfit police dogs

A Bay Area non-profit is stepping up to help police departments facing budget cuts outfit their police dogs with protective gear.

The organization Cover Your Canine collected $120,000 in donations this year. They're using the money to provide training for canine units, but a large part of it goes to purchase bullet proof vests and heat alarms for patrol cars.

In four years, the organization has donated 145 vests to Northern California police departments.
