Asked what she sees in the mirror now, 14-year-old Nadia Iles says, "I see a new me, a beautiful girl." Iles spent years pulling her hair over her ears because other kids teased her because they were bigger than normal. The Georgia native faked illnesses to stay home from school and even considered suicide.
Isles wanted surgery to pin her ears back, but her family couldn't afford it. A group called the "Little Baby Face Foundation" stepped up to help her. "She wasn't picked to have her surgery because she was bullied. She was picked for her surgery because of her deformities," said plastic surgeon Dr. Thomas Romo.
"It was just something that we chose to do. It's no different than somebody having teeth that require braces," Nadia's mother Lynda said.
Iles's plastic surgeon also operated on her nose and chin. She ended up receiving $42,000 of free plastic surgery and a new outlook on life.
