Man found shot inside Hayward jewelry store

HAYWARD, Calif.

As of 11 p.m. the police tape was still up and investigators were still at the store near the intersection of West Tennyson Road and Andrea Street in Hayward.

Police got a 911 call from someone inside Espinosa's Jewelry and Boutique at 3:50 p.m., but the caller didn't say a word.

Police officers were at the scene in minutes. They say they found a 53-year-old, Hispanic male, inside the store. He was unconscious and they immediately realized he had been shot.

"There was a man down inside the business," said Hayward Police Sgt. Eric Krimm. When asked if the man shot was the owner of the store and if this was in fact a robbery, he said, "We haven't determined that yet."

The victim died at the scene. There were several people at the store earlier in the evening very upset. They said they were related to the deceased, but didn't want to say anymore.

Police, meantime, are not releasing many details at all, including whether it looked like someone had broken in or if there was a struggle. The store is known to be a place that buys and sells gold. They say releasing information would compromise their investigation because the shooter is still out there.

This is Hayward's third homicide of the year.

If anyone has any information about what happened, they should call Hayward Police.
