The shooting in the 700 block of Sycamore Street was reported at 8:03 p.m.
A man was found there suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, Officer J. Moore said.
A child suffered a graze wound and was transported to a separate hospital. He is in stable condition tonight, police said.
There's no word on a motive for the shooting. It was Oakland's 77th homicide of the year, exactly the same number as a year ago.
