Petaluma little league team welcomed home

PETALUMA, Calif.

The team, traveling in a stretch Hummer escorted by police and motorcycle, made a welcome home tour through the city before arriving at the fairgrounds where hundreds of family members, friends and fans were waiting.

The reception comes after a 27 day road trip that took them from a tournament in southern California and then to the Little League World Series in Pennsylvania.

The players are now local celebrities -- signing autographs and having pictures taken.

Austin Peretti says that's a challenge.

"I know it's going to be weird; we're totally not prepared," he said.

The players found motivation and inspiration from manager Eric Smith and his coaching staff. Smith says it was always about being the best they could be

"If you're the best you can be in that moment in time then good things will happen," he said.

The boys go back to school on Tuesday and there will be a parade on Sunday.
