Last week, district workers collected four dead birds and two groups of mosquitoes infected with the virus, district officials said.
West Nile-infected birds were also recently found in Antioch, Pleasant Hill and Walnut Creek.
The virus is spread from mosquitoes to birds, and occasionally to humans.
Tonight's fogging is meant to kill off additional groups of adult mosquitoes that could be infected with the West Nile virus.
"Once we determine there is a risk to people, we act immediately to protect their health," District Operations Manager Carlos Sanabria said.
West Nile virus symptoms range from headache, fatigue, swollen glands and fever to more severe symptoms such as high fever, disorientation, paralysis and coma.
The fogging is scheduled to begin around 7:40 p.m. and continue until 11 p.m. tonight. The area slated to be fogged is bordered by Sand Creek Parkway to the north; Sellers Avenue to the east; Balfour Road to the south; and Brentwood Boulevard to the west.
