HS students rally against Muni fees

SAN FRANCISCO

The young protesters staged a street play along Mission Street, just a few blocks from Balboa High School.

One student portrayed a Muni fare inspector, threatening a teen with being fined $100 for not having proof of payment.

Many students say they often look for loose change to pay their Muni fare -- 75 cents each way, to and from school.

City leaders agreed on a plan to provide free Muni rides to low income teens in the spring, but the regional Metropolitan Transportation Commission vetoed the idea.
