Warriors unveil design for arena in San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO

On Monday, the team unveiled the concept design of the new arena that will be built on the San Francisco waterfront. The architects say they placed the 17,000-seat arena far from the sidewalk to preserve views of the bay. The arena is set to go up on what is now a parking lot on Piers 30 and 32. More than half the area is dedicated to open space.

"Placing the buildings as we did, we have opened up a great deal of access to views across the harbor to Oakland and to Berkeley, and parallel to the Embarcadero along the water's edge," architect Craig Dykers explained. The arena's pier will have docks for boats and kayaks.

The design of the building itself has not been finalized, but it will have a glass exterior. The team plans to be playing there in five years.
