SF hopes to make short list to host Super Bowl

SAN FRANCISCO

Santa Clara is building the stadium, but looks like San Francisco is running the show when it comes to trying to persuade the NFL to award a super bowl in 2016 or 2017.

Just like the team itself, San Francisco will be competing against other NFL franchises. But because the league likes shiny new stadiums, and chipped in millions toward Santa Clara's $1.2 billion facility, the venue might be on the short list.

As the host city, San Francisco's hotels and restaurants, and tourist hotspots would be filled.

So if San Francisco becomes the host city, where does that leave Santa Clara? Santa Clara Mayor Jamie Matthews has been in talks with his San Francisco counterpart about the Super Bowl bid and says it's a collaborative approach that will pay off for his city as well.
