Firefighters control vegetation fire in San Jose

SAN JOSE, Calif.

Firefighters responded to reports of a fire at 8:28 a.m. and found trees and brush burning on the side of the creek near Wool Creek Drive, San Jose fire Capt. Mary Gutierrez said.

The fire produced some black smoke, but crews were able to control the blaze before it endangered residents or threatened nearby George Shirakawa Elementary School, Gutierrez said.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
