East Bay teens to perform at Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in NYC

EL CERRITO, Calif.

This is what these dancers from Katie's dance studio will be doing in the New York Parade on Thanksgiving Day as part of a 500 members dance showcase. This show will feature energy and precision, in a once in a lifetime experience.

"I'm so excited to go. It's going to be an amazing experience," one performer said.

"I'm nervous, but I'm really excited about the whole thing," another performer said.

This is the second time Katie's dance studio has been invited to appear in this highly visible parade.

Katie Maltsberger says it because they have won so many competitions and they work hard.

"I'm just so happy for them to have this opportunity because number one, you get to do something you enjoy so much. Number two, with all of your friends and number three, to get to go to a locale like New York City. Oh my gosh," Maltsberger Dance Studio owner Katie Malt said.

"They are doing a routine put together by Spirit of America Productions. These eleven girls will join 489 others to perform it in front of Macy's," Malt said.

Many of these 14 to 16 year-olds have been dancing at Katie's studio since they were in kindergarten. It's like family. It's a place where they develop teamwork and self-confidence, thanks to Katie.

"The way she teaches us in class helps us in life in general," dance student Kelly Barry said. Culminating this time on Thanksgiving Day in New York.

"So when everyone is doing it together it is going to look awesome especially with so many people," Emily Wise said.

The students have to pay their own way so they have been doing fund raising. It's about a great performance and a lesson in history.
