EL SOBRANTE, Calif.

The fire, located at 5815 Sherwood Forest Drive in unincorporated Contra Costa County, was reported at 12:26 a.m., Contra Costa County Fire Battalion Chief Lon Goetsch said.

Fire crews from Contra Costa County Fire Protection District, the City of Pinole Fire Department and the City of Richmond Fire Department arrived to see heavy smoke and fire coming from the second story windows of the single-family home, Goetsch said.

Four adult occupants of the home were inside when the fire began and managed to evacuate the building before firefighters arrived on scene. The Red Cross helped residents displaced by the fire attain shelter, according to Goetsch.

The fire was knocked down within 20 minutes of arrival on the scene. Firefighters were able to stop the fire from spreading beyond the second floor and attic.

No citizens were injured in the fire, however a firefighter sustained a minor injury to his arm. He was transported to the hospital, treated and released, according to Goetsch.

Crews remained on scene this morning to monitor hot spots, according to Goetsch.

Damage to the home is estimated at $80,000, Goetsch said.
