Police announces program to help seniors feel secure

FREMONT, Calif.

As part of the new You Are Not Alone program, police volunteers will call participants once every weekday between 8 a.m. and noon to make sure they are all right, according to police.

The police department created the free program to help those who are independent enough to live alone, but worry about medical crisis that could inhibit their ability to get help, police said.

The department said that if enrollees in the program do not answer the phone after multiple calls, the department will take measures to make sure they are safe.

The program is open to those who want the service and agree to undergo an assessment, according to police.

For more information, or to apply for the program, police invite residents to visit their website at http://www.fremontpolice.org/ or call (510) 590-6691, according to police.

Enrollment in the program is beginning immediately, police said.
