Pedestrian killed on Highway 101 near SFO

SAN MATEO, Calif.

The pedestrian, a woman, was apparently killed in the road near the South Airport Boulevard offramp.

The multi-vehicle collision was reported at 8:20 p.m. and blocked all northbound lanes. A severe traffic alert was issued around 8:45 p.m.

"It was a female in her mid 20's to early 30's. It's still under investigation. We don't know if she was walking across the freeway or was dropped off so that's still under investigation," California Highway Police Officer Josh Nelson said.

An investigation is underway to determine how the pedestrian came to be on the roadway. She had already been struck when she was found by authorities.
