Black Bear Diner job fair in Emeryville

EMERYVILLE, Calif.

There was a surprisingly small turnout yesterday at a job fair for the restaurant; only 40 people showed up for the 120 jobs available.

"This time around it was just a small trickle and that is why we were asking what is going on? Is the economy improving so much that people aren't looking for work?" said Black Bear Diner franchise owner Mauro Rivero.

That's not the case according to the Career Center in downtown Oakland. A counselor there said the restaurant should not be having any problems hiring people. The center is currently helping 1,000 unemployed people find jobs. The Career Center said maybe people just didn't hear about the jobs at the Black Bear.

"We have been advertising now for about the last week and half and we advertised in all the usual areas, Craigslist, Monster we had signs out here and we have even been advertising on some of the Spanish speaking radio stations. So that too was kind of a shock," said Rivero.

The job fair will take place from noon to 8 p.m. at the Four Points Hotel located at 1603 Powell Street in Emeryville. Job seekers will need to bring identification.
