Holiday ruins travel plans for passport applicants

SAN FRANCISCO

A group of people were surprised on Monday when they went to the San Francisco Passport Office only to find out it was closed.

The office was supposed to be open, but last Friday President Obama signed a last minute executive order making Christmas Eve a federal holiday. People who showed up with morning appointments and plans to travel on Monday or Tuesday were left out in the cold.

"I don't know what I can do. I am still waiting out here with a lot of us who have been here since this morning with the hope that they will open and my kids can get there passport and we can travel," said Yuba City resident Griselda Alejo.

The ordeal was especially frustrating for people who had already done all the required paperwork last week and had been told to come in on Monday morning just to pick up their passport.
