Oakland businesses vandalized over Xmas holiday

OAKLAND, Calif.

Sometime Tuesday night or early Wednesday, someone smashed windows at stores along Fruitvale Avenue in the Dimond District.

The back window of a van used at an elderly care facility was broken and the operator, who wished to remain anonymous, says this type of crime is too common in the neighborhood, "If this will go on and on and on without being attended to, then probably I'll have to move somewhere else to do my business."

Oakland officials say an understaffed police force is occupied with higher priority crimes.
