Sergio Romo cited for misdemeanor at Las Vegas airport

SAN FRANCISCO

According to the Las Vegas Metro Police Department, officers were called to a security checkpoint at 9 a.m. for a person who was being disruptive towards TSA agents. Officers saw Romo in an "agitated posture" with "clenched fists" and "pacing around."

Romo was handcuffed until he calmed down and was then issued a misdemeanor citation for "violation of airport rules."

The TSA issued a statement saying, "...a male passenger was unable to provide identification required of travelers at the TSA Document Control station...airport police noticed the individual engaged in a dispute with a TSA officer and took action." The TSA spokesperson would not say if the male passenger involved was Romo, but sources confirmed Romo's identity to ABC7 News.

Sources tell ABC7 News that Romo was returning to San Francisco after attending a party in Las Vegas on Dec. 30. Romo was photographed with San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Michael Crabtree at an event at Haze Nightclub.

The distrcit attorney will now have to decide whether to file formal charges; if he does, Romo will have to appear in court.

Romo's agent did not return ABC7 News' calls Thursday but late Thursday evening, a statement from Romo was released by the Giants saying, "I would like to sincerely apologize about the recent events at the Las Vegas airport which brought negative attention to the San Francisco Giants organization and its fans. I love and respect the Giants, my teammates and our fans and promise to conduct myself in the future in the 'San Francisco Giants Way.'"
