Ever since she was a little girl, Michelle Smith knew she wanted to be a fashion designer.
Fast forward to 2001, and her company Milly was born.
The fashion forward brand has been so successful, Smith was finally ready to say "I do", to her new bridal collection.
"Literally at 4 years old, I was sketching ballerinas and princesses on my kitchen floor," said Michelle Smith, Milly founder.
Years later, Michelle Smith's sketches morphed into Milly, one of the most sought after brands in the fashion world.
For the past 11 years her pieces have graced the closets of countless women.
"I wanted to be able to design clothes made of beautiful materials, made here in New York City, but at a price point I could afford, I didn't want to spend thousands of dollars on an outfit, I couldn't spend thousands of dollars on an outfit," Smith said.
Well Smith is hoping the same women who grew up loving her brand will now choose dresses from her new bridal collection for their special day.
She tells Eyewitness News she decided to launch this project at a time when this market is exploding.
Ladies had long been buying pieces for their weddings from her ready to wear collection, so this just made sense.
"They were calling my office trying to track down different sizes across the country and I said hey, why don't we make this very easy," Smith said.
There are 15 pieces in the Milly bridal collection.
"This would have been my wedding dress," Smith said.
It is a stunning gown, with handmade ruffles cascading down the back.
There is something for your maids and the little one who carries the flowers.
Claudia Hanlin fell in love with the collection.
She sees about 150 brides and bridesmaids each week at The Wedding Library, where Smith's collection is being sold exclusively.
"It's very fashion forward, we love that about Milly, and she has a rainbow selection of colors so we can customize the palette for brides and bridesmaids and that's really a luxury," said Claudia Hanlin, of The Wedding Library.
So what's next for Michelle Smith now?
"Wow, I'd love to have a shoe collection so we'll see how that goes, wish me luck," Smith said.
The dresses range from $325 to $2,000, and the children's line runs about $195.
There will be a special showing of the entire line on January 27th.
