New numbers show wages up average 3.5% in 2012

The economy was sluggish and unemployment was high. Still, figures out Wednesday show wages were up by an average of 3.5 percent in 2012. Analysts reported five jobs that saw the biggest increases.

First, for those in construction, wages grew by 4.2 percent. They were boosted by more housing starts.

That also helped architects and engineers. They earned 3.9 percent more.

Information technology workers earned 4.4 percent more.

Media and publishing also made a comeback, with pay up by 4.6 percent.

And finally, marketing and advertising salaries were up 4.2 percent.
