BART stations reopen, suspicious item deemed harmless

RICHMOND, Calif.

The two stations were shut down around noon and both stations were evacuated after a suspicious package was spotted on the trackway at the El Cerrito del Norte station, BART spokeswoman Luna Salaver said.

The stations reopened around 2:30 p.m. after the Walnut Creek Bomb Squad determined that the suspicious object was harmless, Salaver said.

No injuries were reported in connection with the incident, and buses were on hand to transport passengers headed to the closed stations.

"We are sorry for any inconvenience but we did want to take all precautionary measures to keep our passengers and our employees safe," Salaver said.
